The landscape values of this area are trully unique: the flat Żuławy with depressions (Raczki Elbląskie – 1.8 m below sea level), the Elbląg Upland (the Silver Mountain – 198.5 m above sea level), the picturesque Old Prussian Coast. Many monuments can be found in the picturesque towns around the reservoir (Kadyny, Tolkmicko, Frombork, Nowa Pasłęka) and in its vicinity (Elbląg, Braniewo).
The most valuable natural areas are under protection – in the Elbląg Upland Landscape Park and in other nature reserves (such as the Elbląg Bay, the Nogat Estuary). Here, you can commune with nature, admire the scenery, as well as observe birds and other animals.
To help you explore, there is a network of hiking trails and educational paths (the “Ptasi Raj” bird sanctuary near Jagodno, Bażantarnia near Elbląg, Kadyński Forest near Kadyny).

Bike lovers have plenty of route options. From Elbląg to Braniewo (and further, to other places in Warmia and Mazury), along the Vistula Lagoon, there is a very attractive section of the Green Velo Eastern Bicycle Trail. Cyclists on the route can use the network of Cyclist-Friendly Places, i.e. accommodation, catering and service facilities that adapt their offers to the needs of cyclists.
Many local routes connect with Green Velo, so you can reach interesting places, like the Holy Stone trail (start and finish in Tolkmicko, 19 km) or the Kadyńska Route (start and finish in Kadyny, 25 km).

Sailing enthusiasts can use the ports and marinas on the southern coast of the Vistula Lagoon: in Suchacz, Kadyny, Tolkmicko, Frombork and Nowa Pasłęka, as well as in Elbląg and Braniewo. Following the Elbląg Canal, which connects Elbląg with Ostróda (as well as Iława, Zalew and Stare Jabłonki), you can reach Jeziorek and other lakes of the Iława Lake District.
Taking the water routes of the Żuławy Loop, you can reach the rivers of Żuławy, the Vistula and the Gdańsk Bay. If you like canoeing, you can enjoy the rivers flowing into the lagoon: Nogat, Cieplicówka, Elbląg and Pasłęka, as well as smaller ones, if you’re up for a challenge.
