Springtime is becoming more and more inviting for active outdoor recreation. Sailing is a great way to spend time in our region. Many enthusiasts of this form of recreation are surely yearning to feel the Masurian wind tousle their hair. Apart from the sense of freedom that sailing offers, there are also multiple other advantages of this form of recreation.
Practicing sailing allows you to develop self-reliance and humility, as well as strengthen your character. It’s a sport with a very low risk of injury. It may be considered a recreational activity, practiced independently of other sports disciplines. However, if you need an adrenaline rush, it’s worth spending more time honing your skills to take part in a regatta in the future.
You can sail across numerous waters of Warmia and Masuria, yet the great Masurian Lakes Trail is the most popular among water sports aficionados. In its center lies Giżycko, which is well-known for its sailing-friendly vibe. The main thread of the trail spans from Węgorzewo to Lake Nidzkie (Leśniczówka Pranie) and is 132 km long!
However, if you would like to see more and stray from the main route, you should prepare for a trip that’s three times longer. At an unhurried pace, it will take less than two weeks to cover this distance. Keep in mind, however, that sometimes it is worth going ashore to learn about the local history and culture thanks to museums, Teutonic castles and beautiful temples.

If you are renting a boat for the first time, it is a good idea to choose a service company on the trail. This service is now very popular. Be sure to pay attention to whether the company has Breakdown Cover and Liability Insurance. This is important in cases your engine or personal belongings are stolen, for example. Charter prices vary depending on the size of the yacht and its equipment, as well as the date of booking.
