Cross-country skiing enthusiasts will certainly enjoy the hilly areas of the Garbat Lake District and the Dylewo Hills. Other winter activities in the region include ice skating, sleigh rides, dog sledding, canoeing, diving, ice fishing and ice boating.

In Western Masuria, especially attractive cross-country skiing areas can be found in the Dylewskie Hills Landscape Park. It was established in 1994, and within its borders, in whole or in part, there were three nature reserves: Dylewo (forest), Lake Francuska (floristic) and Rzeka Drwęca (fauna).
The unique landscape values are best admired on the running route from Dylewo to Wysoka Wieś (length: approx. 10 km, travel time: 3 hours. 30 min). Every year, the Sasinów Ski Run is organized among the local forests. Cross-country skiers of all ages can participate in the run. There are two routes to choose from: a five-kilometre route and a ten-kilometre route. Both begin and end in Wysoka Wieś.

In the Kumiecie forest near Gołdap, in the western part of the Romincka Forest, the Jaćwingów Run is organised, which is extremely popular with cross-country enthusiasts of all ages. The running routes are marked out by picturesque forest paths. It is the oldest winter running event in north-eastern Poland.
Regardless of this, the Sports and Recreation Center in Gołdap prepares routes in the Kumiecie forest with a length of 1 km, 1.5 km, 3 km and 5 km each year. Skiers can also use the routes along the Zdrojowa Promenade in the city. For beginner lovers of this sport, there are routes at the OSiR stadium in Gołdap (approx. 600 m on the side plate and 400 m on the main plate).
