Festival capital of Masuria – Mrągowo

Mrągowo is one of the largest Masurian cities, although it is far from being an agglomeration. However, it is very well known in Poland and also abroad. This is mainly due to festival events organized for years in the amphitheater located at Lake Czos. The object was built in the 80s of the last century. In 2012 it was put into service in a new version, after a thorough alteration. Its auditorium has over 5,000 seats. On its boards, the amphitheatre in Mrągowo hosted excellent artists from Poland and abroad.

Every year, a number of events take place in Mrągowo. The most famous include: Masurian Cabaret Night, Country Picnic and Borderland Culture Festival. Masurian Cabaret Night has been organized in the amphitheater since 1999. The audience can have fun during the performances of the biggest stars of the Polish cabaret scene and the best performers of popular music.

Every year Country Picnic attracts thousands of fans of this genre of music and lifestyle. During this time, Mrągowo turns into a western town for a few days – with a crowd of tourists in costumes straight from the Wild West, motorcycles, off-road cars and horse-drawn carriages. This atmosphere can be felt in Mrągowo not only during a few days of the event. It also prevails in Mrongoville Family Town – a western-style amusement park.

The Borderland Culture Festival is a presentation of the artistic heritage and traditions of Poles living in the former Borderlands. Polish folklore groups, choirs and bands as well as individual performers from Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia and the Czech Republic take part in this festival.

As you can see, it is not without reason that Mrągowo is called the festival capital of the region. Due to the high level events taking place here, the town has received the certificate of the Warmian-Masurian Regional Tourist Organization “Mrągowo – festival city” twice (in 2009 and 2011).

While in Mrągowo, in the intervals between artistic events, it is worth visiting the old town. Here you will see the historical town hall from 1824, which currently houses a branch of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria. Next to the building there is an even older Bosnian Watchtower, where in the years 1770-1792 the 9th Bosnian Regiment was stationed. Historic tenement houses, built in various architectural styles, are located along the streets of the old town. Cobbled streets recreate the unique and unforgettable atmosphere of the former Masurian town. So it’s worth taking a walk and get back in time for a moment.

Families with children should visit the Ekomarina, the rope park at Mrongoville and the largest playground in the area, which is located right next to the amphitheater. Lovers can go for a walk to the mysterious Spring of Love.
