Simply plan your holiday – highlighted sites in Warmia and Mazury

Many factors have an impact on how successful we consider a holiday to be. The key factors include, for example, the venue and its climate. There are plenty of such places in Warmia and Mazury that will meet even the most sophisticated expectations, so the choice will not be easy. In this respect, it may be helpful to find out about the locations and sites that others have already appreciated, i.e. those that have been recognised and awarded in national and regional contests in 2023.

Let’s start with a unique place, which is the Warmińska Pszczoła educational farm. Its owner was awarded the Grand Prix ofthe 2023 National Pszczelarz Roku (Beekeeper of the Year) competition. The farm is a good place for both a day trip and a longer stay, as there are two year-round cottages available for guests. There are approx. 200 hives, beekeeping, handicraft, and insect house-building workshops held. Being surrounded by nature works significantly in favour of relaxing. Before leaving Warmińska Pszczoła, it’s worth stepping into its shop and stocking up on jars full of golden sweetness. In addition to the basic flavours, you will also find sunflower, acacia, heather, and propolis honeys.

The annual “Zielone Lato” (Green Summer) Agro-Eco-Tourism Competition honours and promotes the best tourist facilities operating in the region’s rural areas. The winners of this year’s competition were: Willa Dwa Jeziora in Kalu near Węgorzewo and Cichosza Miłomłyn Domki Letniskowe in Mazury. Staying in them will appeal to those who go on holiday to change their surroundings, but who do not want to deprive themselves of amenities but, quite the contrary, need to experience special comfort and relaxation in a unique way.

A swimming pool, sauna, restaurant, sports space, elegant interiors with nature at your fingertips. All this and more can be found at Willa Dwa Jeziora, where you can stay with children or pets. Rooms and cottages are available for rent. Not only a welcoming space awaits guests, but also pro-health and relaxation services such as herbal medicine, music therapy, aromatherapy, as well as light and hydrotherapy.

Cichosza Miłomłyn also welcomes those who wish to regenerate in a natural setting, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Each cottage is 60 square meters in size and accommodates six people. If, during a stay, someone dreams of having coffee on a terrace overlooking a forest – here this simple dream comes true. It is possible to rent a bike and go for a ride in the countryside or go canoeing. There are cruise ships on the nearby Elbląg Canal that reach Elbląg.

It is also worth recommending the winners of the the Mister Camping 2023 competition, organised by the Polish Federation of Camping and Caravanning. As many as seven campsites from the Warmia-Mazury Voivodeship were ranked first! These are the following campsites: Ostoja Stara Baśń in Kosewo, Elbląg Nr 61 in Elbląg, Wagabunda in Mikołajki, Cezar in Mrągowo, Echo in Rydzewo, KamA in Tałty, and Tumiany in Tumiany.

The winner of the second place was the Pajda Mazur camp site in Kątno, while the third-place winners were the Bystry campsite in Bystry and the Rusałka campsite in Węgorzewo. As camping goes, nature is usually just beyond the fence, along with a clear lake and forest. Camping aficionados need no special encouragement to take advantage of the best facilities in the region, but there is no doubt that those wishing to choose this form of recreation for the first time will not be disappointed.

The final proposition (accessible regardless of the season) is the castle in Lidzbark Warmiński, which was the winner of the Złota Pinezka (Golden Pin), an award granted annually by Google Maps users. For several hundred years, the castle was the seat of the bishops of Warmia, who exercised both clerical and secular authority over their dominion. Currently, the castle houses the Museum of Warmia, which presents the history and culture of the region. The nobles who resided in the castle include, for example, Nicolaus Copernicus and Bishop Ignacy Krasicki, known as the Prince of Polish Poets. The outer bailey buildings now house a hotel.
