The Masurian Bicycle Loop
Officially opened in June 2023, the Masurian Bicycle Loop is a unique tourist trail that not only offers the opportunity to enjoy active recreation surrounded by beautiful landscapes, but also to learn about the richness of nature and memorabilia of the region’s history.
The trail is nearly 300 km long and connects the most important cities located on the Great Masurian Lakes and in the Mrągowskie Lake District. Functionally, the Masurian Bicycle Loop is divided into three parts. The western one runs from Węgorzewo to Mikołajki (via Ryn and Mrągowo, 121 km), the southern one connects Mikołajki with Pisz (via Ruciane-Nida, 61 km), and the eastern one – Pisz with Węgorzewo (through Giżycko, 103 km).

The route leads not only through quiet towns, but also through charming villages, near picturesque lakes and nature reserves. The Masurian Cycling Loop runs through 12 communes, and in Węgorzewo it meets the Green Velo Eastern Bicycle Trail. The individual sections of the trail are very diverse, both in terms of difficulty and type of surface. There are paved, gravel and dirt forest sections – both completely flat and almost mountainous.

There are 18 cyclist service stations (MORs) and 9 observation towers along the Masurian Cycle Loop. MORs are equipped with rest shelters, bicycle racks, toilets, waste bins and electricity connections.
Part of the trail runs through the Masurian Landscape Park and the Piska Forest. The route passes several nature reserves, including: Sztynort, Lake Dobskie, Lake Łuknajno (with a mute swan colony numbering up to 2,000 individuals), Nietlickie Bagno (the largest refuge of migratory cranes in Poland) and Lake Nidzkie. The abundance of lakes and rivers encourages recreation by and on the water.

When staying in larger towns, it is not only worth visiting their monuments, but also getting to know the culinary traditions of present-day Masuria, which are influenced by the cuisine of various ethnic groups that inhabited the region.
The trail is long and full of places where it is worth stopping for a moment or longer. Therefore, before setting off, we advise you to divide the route into sections adapted to the willingness and abilities of the trip participants, and also to arrange accommodation and provisions.
